Infographic: Killer Facts And Statistics About Google Plus

Posted In +MEDIA, +SOCIAL - By Zoheb Hajiyani On Wednesday, September 7th, 2011 With 13 Comments

IdentyMe recently came up with an infographic that outlines some pretty interesting updated facts and statistics about Google Plus. The infographic covers various statistics based on the current user-base such as- the total estimated population is around 26 million users, it is heavily dominated by men (72%), and quite a lot of people haven’t updated their gender on Google Plus (20%).

Even though we all know that Google Plus wasn’t started by a Harvard Undergrad for less than $25k, it is surprising to see the total cost to build Google Plus- just around $585 million based on the acquisitions and an estimate of salaries+comp.

Ironically, Mark Zuckerberg continues to be the most popular Google Plus user with more than 485,000 followers (Even though he hasn’t contributed anything yet) followed by Team Google (Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Vic Gundotra) and Pete Cashmore (Founder of Mashable).

The USA and India have the biggest presence on Google Plus, and the top 10 occupations on Google Plus seemed to be centered around technology (go figure). This also aligns with the top companies on Google Plus- heavily dominated by Google, Apple, Accenture, IBM, Infosys, Microsoft, and Tata.

    Correct me if I am wrong, but 72% (male) + 28% (female) + 20% (other) = 120% = impossible!

Good catch! Looks like they’ve estimated the 20% other to be evenly distributed between male and female. So its probably around 62% male and 18% female

Looks like the growth has slowly dwindled down…from a sudden burst to a rapid deceleration

I like the fact that Google Plus is more tech oriented, a much better place to get information and discuss topics on tech

I don’t think the post said anything about the number of women. It said 72% men and 20% declined to comment. We cannot deduce what percentage of women there are using the data provided. We do know that it cannot be greater than 28%, however. We also deduce that it is not less than 8%.

It strikes me that this is typical of a large project designed by committee. With big company hubris, Google has waited until something is almost fully fleshed out before releasing it. Spending a massive amount of time/money (if these numbers are to be believed) in producing a pretty near unusable product.

Whatever happened to agile development? Whatever happened to crowd sourcing?

This is the antithesis of how software for the web should be built.

ooops rushed my own comment out of the door! I didn’t look at the graphic, just the text. Te text didn’t mention the percentage of women – only the graphic did. My bad and apologies all around!
